Trent
Canal, Ontario, Canada is
a founding member of Waterway
Tourism.
The Trent Canal theoretically runs the full length of The
Trent-Severn Waterway linking
Georgian Bay of Lake Huron with Lake Ontario. The Trent
Canal’s
386-km main course (The Trent-Severn Waterway) consists
of 53 km of man-made channels 6
to 8 feet deep comprising what is considered by most, the Trent
Canal portion. The balance are lakes and rivers that flow
NorthWest to Georgian Bay and SoutEast to Lake Ontario from the
Waterway's high point at Balsam Lake.
The Trent Severn Waterway, conceived in 1833, is Central
Ontario’s
386 kilometers of waterway linking Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay
utilizing 41 locks (4 of which consist of two sets of flight
locks), a marine railway and two hydraulic lift locks. The high
point, Balsam
Lake,
is 180 meters
above Lake Ontario and 80 meters above Georgian Bay.
